Steel doors are generally installed between interior and exterior areas such as front doors and garages.  Their polyurethane or polystyrene core makes them light for ease of operation.  Steel between 16 and 24 gauge is used for the skin of the door. In addition, a wood frame, called a stile, surrounds the perimeter covering the polyurethane or polystyrene for an enhanced thermal barrier. Studies show that these man made materials create better insulation than standard wood doors by nearly 500%!!!
